## Google Declares End to “Green vs. Blue Bubble” Debate at Made by Google Event
Google’s recent **Made by Google** event, featuring the unveiling of the **Pixel 10** lineup and **Pixel Watch 4**, also included a symbolic moment regarding text messaging interoperability. During a demonstration of the new Pixel devices, Google VP of Marketing Adrienne Lofton declared the long-running debate surrounding the distinct colors of text bubbles—green for Android, blue for Apple—effectively “over.” The announcement comes as Apple recently adopted **Rich Communication Services (RCS)**, a universal text messaging standard previously championed by Google.
RCS enables features such as improved photo and video resolution, richer emoji reactions, and more consistent group messaging experiences across different mobile platforms. Lofton illustrated the technology’s accessibility by engaging in a brief exchange with host Jimmy Fallon, who admitted unfamiliarity with the term “RCS.” The adoption of RCS means both Android and Apple devices will now utilize the same standard, though iMessages will continue to display as blue while RCS messages appear green on Apple devices.
Google has long advocated for a unified messaging standard, previously highlighting Apple’s lack of RCS support in promotional materials. The company reiterated its belief that technology should facilitate communication between users regardless of their device preference, with Lofton playfully encouraging attendees to consider a Pixel.
The shift towards RCS represents a substantial step toward greater interoperability in text messaging and potentially marks the end of a consumer-facing debate largely fueled by Google and Samsung’s prior marketing campaigns.
