Onyx BOOX Note Air5 C: A New E Ink Tablet with Pen and Keyboard Support

The Onyx BOOX Note Air5 C is a new E Ink tablet, closely resembling the previous model, the BOOX Note Air4 C. Despite minor improvements, existing users are unlikely to find sufficient upgrades to warrant an upgrade from their current device.

Priced at $530 and available through Amazon or the Onyx BOOX Shop, this latest iteration features a 10.3-inch E Ink Kaleido 3 color display with an octa-core processor, 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage (plus microSD card support), and a 3700 mAh battery. Key enhancements include the inclusion of pogo pins for optional keyboard connectivity and the shipment with Android 15.

For those unimpressed by these upgrades, the Note Air4 C remains an option at $500, though it is slightly lighter at 420 grams compared to the new model’s 440 grams. Both tablets share a 10.3-inch E Ink Kaleido 3 display with a resolution of 2480 x 1860 pixels, offering up to 4096 colors and support for automatic screen rotation via a G-sensor.

Additional features on the Onyx BOOX Note Air5 C include a front light with adjustable brightness and color temperature settings, built-in stereo speakers, a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button, and a USB-C port. Despite its low refresh rate display, it comes pre-installed with the Google Play Store for easy third-party app installation.

The tablet is bundled with a BOOX Stylus Touch featuring 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity, but an optional keyboard cover must be purchased separately ($110) or as part of a bundle ($607). This keyboard case includes a magnetic closure, QWERTY layout, and USB-C passthrough charging capabilities. Together, the tablet and keyboard weigh around 2 pounds, providing portability akin to many laptop models.
