Huawei Dominates China’s Foldable Phone Market with 68.9% Share!

Huawei continues to lead the Chinese foldable phone market, holding a commanding 68.9% share according to IDC’s latest report covering Q1-Q3 of 2024. Honor follows closely in second place, contributing an impressive 11.2% market share. As demand for these innovative devices surges, Huawei’s dominance is evident and unchallenged.

The Chinese foldable phone market saw a remarkable growth trajectory with shipments reaching 2.63 million units during Q3 of 2024, marking an impressive 17.8% year-over-year increase. Over the first nine months of this year, total shipments have surged to 7.62 million units, representing a 14.3% annual growth rate.

Market Dynamics

The rise of Huawei’s foldable devices has not only solidified its position but also attracted major competitors like Samsung into the fray. In Q3 2024, Samsung secured the fifth spot in market share with a modest 4.3%. This is noteworthy given Samsung’s relatively low market penetration across China as a whole.

Analysts attribute this surge to several factors: improvements in design and weight reduction, making foldables more accessible and appealing to mainstream consumers. Additionally, the increasing adoption of advanced features like 5G and WiFi 7 has helped drive demand for these high-end devices.

Huawei’s Lineup

Among Huawei’s lineup are the Mate 60 Pro, P70 Ultra, and Magic 6 – each equipped with cutting-edge technology such as HarmonyOS 4.2, Kirin 9000s processors, and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipsets. These models exemplify how foldable phones have transitioned from niche to mainstream products.

The Mate 70 Pro, for instance, boasts a sleek design with a 6.8-inch display and a powerful 5G connectivity feature, making it an attractive option for tech enthusiasts and business professionals alike. With features like WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3, users can enjoy seamless connectivity and performance.

Future Prospects

The rapid growth of the Chinese foldable phone market is expected to continue in 2025, with Huawei likely to maintain its leadership position as it releases new models and enhances existing ones. As competition intensifies and more players enter the market, the race for innovation will undoubtedly heat up.

Consumers can anticipate further advancements in battery life, camera technology, and overall user experience from Huawei’s upcoming foldable offerings. The company’s focus on integrating HarmonyOS into its devices promises to deliver a seamless and robust ecosystem for users.
