Huawei recently unveiled its flagship tablet, the Huawei MatePad Edge, which boasts a powerful Kirin X90 processor. This high-performance device is designed to cater to productivity users and content creators and runs on HarmonyOS. The new tablet was introduced alongside other devices such as the Huawei Mate X7 foldable phone and the Mate 80 smartphone series.
The MatePad Edge features a sleek 14.2-inch OLED display with an impressive resolution of 3120 x 2080 pixels (3.1K) at a refresh rate of 120Hz, providing users with unparalleled clarity and smoothness. The tablet has ultra-narrow bezels, achieving a screen-to-body ratio of 94%, and incorporates an ultrathin 4.1 mm frame design that enhances its visual appeal. It also boasts a front-facing 32MP camera without any cutouts.
Engineered for professional-grade color accuracy, the OLED panel supports HDR Vivid technology, reaches peak brightness of 1000 nits, and offers full P3 color gamut coverage. Additionally, the device comes with an anti-reflective coating on its screen for better comfort in bright environments.
Under the hood, the MatePad Edge is powered by either Kirin X90 or X90A processors from Huawei’s desktop HarmonyOS PC chipset category, promising a 3.8x performance boost over the MatePad Pro 13.2 released earlier this year. Running on HarmonyOS 5.1, it offers seamless transitions between tablet and desktop modes, four-finger gestures, control center switching, and keyboard shortcuts.
The cooling solution of the MatePad Edge includes dual aluminum fans, VC heat dissipation modules, micro-etched airflow channels, and approximately 4000 ventilation holes for optimal thermal management. A special liquid-cooled version enhances this with graphene layers and a dual-core micro pump, providing up to 28W of thermal capacity.
Equipped with a powerful 12900mAh battery, the MatePad Edge supports Huawei SuperCharge fast charging at 140W. It also includes reverse charging capabilities for other devices at 40W. The camera system features a main sensor of 50MP with an f/1.8 aperture and an ultra-wide macro lens of 8MP with an f/2.2 aperture, offering both high-resolution photography and versatile video recording.
For audio, the tablet has a six-speaker stereo system that includes near-field spatial sound and panoramic surround modes when using headphones. Connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, USB-C 3.1 Gen1 with DP1.2 video output support, and Huawei’s NearLink standard.
The MatePad Edge comes in two colors: Deep Space Grey and Moonlight Silver. Select models come packaged with a magnetic keyboard and the M-Pencil Pro stylus is available as an optional accessory.
