## Android 16 QPR2 Beta 2 Introduces Icon Redesign and Customization Potential
Following the recent “Made by Google” event, Google has released Android 16 QPR2 Beta 2, bringing visible changes to the user interface, specifically focusing on home screen icons. The update continues the evolution of Google’s Material You design language, moving towards a new “Material You 3 Expressive” style.
Previously referred to as “themed icons,” the feature has been rebranded as “minimal” icons within the Android operating system. Users can now find multiple icon options within the Wallpaper & style settings: “default,” “minimal,” and a new, currently unavailable, “create” option. The “create” feature is intended to allow for user-defined icon customization, though it presently displays an error message.
The Material You design initiative, first introduced in Android 12, dynamically adjusts the color palette of the user interface based on the selected wallpaper. This latest beta build suggests ongoing refinements to this functionality.
The Android 16 QPR2 Beta 2 update is currently available for the Pixel 10 series, slated for release on August 18, with pre-orders already open.
