Dutch telecom KPN chooses Ericsson over Huawei for its 5G network

The Dutch telecom company announced on Thursday (October 15th) that KPN chose Swedish Ericsson to build the core elements of its new 5G mobile network following its decision not to choose Huawei in 2019.

He expressed fear that KPN’s 5G backbone would be susceptible to spying by the Chinese government if it included Huawei equipment.

Huawei, the world’s largest seller of telecom equipment and smartphones, denied US claims that the US was ultimately liable to the Chinese government and thus posed a security risk.

KPN said on Thursday it will “collaborate with Ericsson” for the implementation of core 5G technology.

No financial details of the agreement with Ericsson have been disclosed.
