The owners’ corporation of Wang Fuk Court in Hong Kong is moving to oust the contractor and consultant responsible for its renovation project following a fire that claimed over one hundred lives last month. The estate’s management has scheduled a crucial meeting on December 17th to address this issue.
The Wang Fuk Court owners’ corporation announced it will terminate the contracts with Prestige Construction and Engineering Co. Ltd, as well as Will Power Architects Co. Ltd over their alleged roles in the renovation project that led to the tragic blaze. The renovation was reportedly valued at HK$336 million.
In response to the fire, investigations have been initiated by both police and the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC). Police are investigating charges of manslaughter against senior management from Prestige Construction and Engineering Co. Ltd, while ICAC is probing allegations of corruption. The Fire Services Department has honored a firefighter who lost his life in the disaster with an honorary title and plans to bury him at Gallant Garden on December 19th.
The meeting scheduled for December 17th will also see ISS EastPoint providing updates on the status of fire alarm systems, insurance claims progress, and budget considerations for post-fire management operations. With six people still missing and approximately 5,000 displaced individuals, concerns over recovery efforts remain paramount.
