Huawei and China Unicom Beijing Rev Up 5G-A Network for the Beijing Marathon

China Unicom Beijing, in collaboration with Huawei, has successfully deployed a high-uplink 5G Advanced (5G-A) network at this year’s Beijing Marathon. This cutting-edge network technology aims to provide unparalleled connectivity and performance during one of China’s most prominent sporting events.

The launch of the 5G-A network is part of ongoing efforts by Huawei and its partners to push the boundaries of mobile communication technology in urban environments where demand for high-speed data transmission is at an all-time high. With over 30,000 participants expected this year, the Beijing Marathon presents a unique challenge that requires robust infrastructure capable of handling heavy traffic spikes.

Technological Advancements

The newly installed 5G-A network boasts several key improvements compared to previous iterations. Specifically designed for enhanced uplink capabilities, it ensures smoother live streaming, faster data uploads, and more stable connections for users within the event grounds. Huawei’s advanced hardware, including its latest base stations and antennas, plays a crucial role in this deployment.

“This project represents a significant milestone in our efforts to leverage 5G-A technology to enhance user experiences,” said Li Xiang, Director of Network Technology at China Unicom Beijing. “By working closely with Huawei, we aim not only to support the needs of today’s marathon but also lay down infrastructure that will serve future events and everyday users alike.”

User Benefits

Marathon participants and spectators can look forward to enjoying improved connectivity during the race. With faster upload speeds, live video streaming from smartphones such as the Huawei Mate 70 or Honor Magic 6 becomes effortless, allowing users to share their experiences in real-time with friends and family.

In addition, for those tracking their performance using wearable devices like Huawei’s Watch GT series, the network will provide more reliable connections to transmit data accurately and promptly. This ensures that runners can monitor their progress effectively without worrying about connectivity issues.

Future Prospects

The successful deployment of the high-uplink 5G-A network at the Beijing Marathon marks an important step towards wider adoption across China’s major cities. As more urban areas implement such advanced networks, the benefits will extend beyond sports events to daily activities like remote working and digital entertainment.

“This collaboration is a testament to our commitment in providing innovative solutions that cater to evolving user needs,” commented Zhang Hongwei, Director of Network Solutions at Huawei. “We are excited about what lies ahead as we continue pushing the envelope with 5G-A technology.”
