Rumors began to appear that Huawei and Volkswagen would establish a joint autonomous driving company. Regarding the Volkswagen rumors, the CEO of Volkswagen China made the opening. In the statement, Huawei and Volkswagen said that they were really discussing the issue, but there was no news that could be confirmed.
It was reported that Huawei plans to establish a joint venture with the global automobile giant Volkswagen Group in October 2021 to develop autonomous driving technology.
One of the ways to discuss cooperation is that Volkswagen Group invests and becomes the controlling party of the joint venture, and Huawei mainly provides technical IP (i.e. intellectual property). Among them, the technical IP provided by Huawei included not only software technologies such as autonomous driving, but also Huawei’s chip IP.
He learned that Huawei and Volkswagen Group’s Audi brand signed a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation in Berlin in July 2018 to develop smart connected vehicles.
