Huawei Phones to Lose WhatsApp Support Soon: Here Are the Affected Devices

Starting from November 15, 2024, several smartphone models will no longer have access to WhatsApp due to compatibility issues with newer updates and features. This change particularly affects older devices released in or before 2016, including some Huawei and Honor handsets.

Why is WhatsApp Dropping Support?

WhatsApp has decided to discontinue support for certain models of smartphones due to technical limitations that prevent them from integrating with the latest updates. This decision primarily impacts devices that do not meet the requirements set by Facebook’s messaging service for security and performance.

Affected Huawei Devices

Some of the affected Huawei devices include older models like the Honor 7A, Mate 9 Pro, and P10 Plus. However, it is important to note that newer models such as the Huawei Mate 60 Pro with HarmonyOS 4.2 and Kirin 9000s chipset are not impacted by this change.

Steps for Affected Users

If you own a phone affected by WhatsApp’s decision, there are several steps to take:

  • Check your model: Visit the official WhatsApp website or use their app to verify if your specific device is on the list of unsupported models.
  • Consider upgrading: If you have an older phone, it might be time to upgrade to a newer model that supports WhatsApp’s latest features and security measures.

Newer Huawei Models Remain Compatible

Luckily for users of the latest Huawei models such as the Honor P70 Ultra with HarmonyOS 4.2, they will continue to enjoy full support from WhatsApp without any issues. These devices boast powerful features like a 6.8-inch AMOLED display and Bluetooth 5.3.

For those looking for reliable alternatives, Huawei’s latest offerings such as the Magic 6 with HarmonyOS 4.2 remain a strong choice in terms of both performance and compatibility with essential apps like WhatsApp.
