Huawei Unveils Kirin X90-Powered MatePad Edge Tablet

Huawei has finally unveiled its flagship tablet, the MatePad Edge, which features the latest Kirin X90 processor. The company launched this high-performance HarmonyOS tablet aimed at productivity users and content creators. Alongside this announcement, Huawei also released their Mate X7 foldable phone and Mate 80 series smartphones.

The new MatePad Edge boasts a sleek OLED screen with a resolution of 3120 x 2080 pixels (3.1K) and a refresh rate of 120Hz on a 14.2-inch display, delivering an impressive aspect ratio of 94% thanks to its thin 4.1 mm bezels. The tablet also features a high-resolution 32MP front camera with ultra-narrow borders, ensuring that there are no gaps or cuts in the design.

Moreover, this model supports HDR Vivid and reaches up to 1000 nits peak brightness while covering the full P3 color gamut for professional-grade color accuracy. A version of the screen also has an anti-reflective coating to reduce glare in bright environments.

Packing a powerful Kirin X90 or X90A chipset, Huawei claims that this processor offers a 3.8 times performance improvement compared to last year’s MatePad Pro 13.2 model. Running on HarmonyOS 5.1, the tablet supports seamless switching between tablet and desktop interfaces, four-finger gestures, control center transitions, and keyboard shortcuts.

The cooling solution includes dual aluminum fans, VC thermal distribution modules, micro-machined airflow channels, and approximately 4000 ventilation holes. The liquid-cooled special edition adds graphene layers and a dual-core pump to provide up to 28W of thermal capacity.

With a substantial 12900 mAh battery and support for Huawei’s SuperCharge 140W fast charging, the MatePad Edge also offers 40W reverse charging. The rear camera system includes a primary 50MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture and an 8MP macro lens with f/2.2 aperture.

The tablet supports Wi-Fi dual-band, Bluetooth 5.2, USB-C 3.1 Gen1 DP1.2 video output, as well as Huawei’s new NearLink standard for connectivity. The MatePad Edge is available in two colors: Deep Space Gray and Moonlight Silver. Some models come with a magnetic keyboard included in the box.
