The sleek and modern design of the Huawei Mate 80 and Pro models
Huawei has unveiled its latest flagship devices, the Huawei Mate 80 and Mate 80 Pro, in China. The phones are powered by last year’s Kirin 9020 for the standard model and this year’s new Kirin 9030 chip for the Pro models. Notably, Huawei claims that both the Mate 80 and Mate 80 Pro offer significant performance improvements over their predecessors.
Design-wise, the two devices feature a striking dual-ring back design along with full metal bodies wrapped in nylon back panels available in four finishes: Obsidian Black, Snow White, Dawn Gold, and Spruce Green. Both phones boast a 6.75-inch OLED display that supports an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120Hz and features 1440Hz PWM dimming.
Camera capabilities include a 50MP main camera with variable aperture for the Mate 80, complemented by a 12MP periscope telephoto lens and a 40MP ultrawide camera. The Pro model includes an upgraded setup with a 50MP primary camera, a dedicated macro telephoto lens, and enhanced ISP technology.
The battery capacity of both phones is listed at 5750mAh (rated as 5620mAh). Charging options vary between models, with the Mate 80 supporting up to 66W wired fast charging and the Pro model topping out at 100W. Wireless charging capabilities are also upgraded, reaching 50W for the Mate 80 and 80W for the Pro.
In addition to their impressive specs, these new devices boast advanced satellite communication features, including support for Tiantong calls and Beidou messaging, enabling connectivity even in areas with no network coverage. Huawei’s HarmonyOS 6 is pre-installed on both models, providing users with a seamless user experience.
