Huawei Unveils Mate 80 Pro Max: Top-of-the-Line Smartphone with Dual-Layer OLED Display

At a press event in China today, Huawei unveiled its new flagship smartphone, the Mate 80 Pro Max. This device is designed to be the most powerful and robust member of the Mate series, featuring an all-metal casing, a cutting-edge dual-layer OLED screen, and satellite connectivity.

The Mate 80 Pro Max boasts a 6.9-inch dual-layer OLED display with a maximum brightness of 8000 nits, making it the first smartphone in its category to feature such technology. The device also includes features like IP69 and IP68 water and dust resistance ratings, enhancing durability.

On the hardware side, the Mate 80 Pro Max is powered by Huawei’s latest Kirin 9030 Pro chipset coupled with the Ark Graphics Engine. This configuration results in a performance boost of up to 45% compared to last year’s model and applications starting 34% faster.

The camera system on this device, named the second-generation Maple Leaf imaging technology, has been redesigned to include a main sensor with equivalent pixels down to 2.45 μm. This upgrade increases total light capture by 96%, resulting in improved dynamic range and color accuracy through enhanced spectral sequences.

Additionally, Huawei highlights that its new smartphone integrates the most advanced communication systems available today, supporting Wi-Fi 7 Plus, standard cellular networks, Tiantong satellite communications, and Beidou satellite messaging. The company refers to this as a combination of ground network plus space network plus network-free solutions.
