The Huawei Mate 80 series featuring redesigned casing structures and enhanced display features
Huawei has unveiled its latest flagship smartphone series, the Huawei Mate 80, in China, comprising four distinct models: Mate 80, Mate 80 Pro, Mate 80 Pro Max, and Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design. Each model features a different configuration of screen design, processor architecture, and camera hardware.
The new devices stand out with their flat-screen designs and significantly enhanced brightness levels compared to previous generations. The casing structure, frame design, and water and dust resistance ratings have also been notably updated across the series.
One unique feature is the circular camera rings integrated into a squared-off edge design. These models come with 2.5D flat OLED panels, replacing Huawei’s long-standing curved display tradition. Screen sizes range from 6.75 inches on the Mate 80 and Pro to 6.9 inches on the Pro Max and RS Ultimate Design variants.
The series includes three front camera cutouts supporting both selfies and facial recognition systems. The brightness levels are impressive, with the Mate 80 Pro Max achieving an unprecedented 8000 nits peak brightness—Huawei’s highest recorded value to date. These displays support LTPO-based adaptive refresh rates between 1Hz and 120Hz as well as high-frequency PWM dimming for touch response speed.
Under the hood, Huawei has equipped three different processor configurations: Kirin 9020 in the Mate 80, Kirin 9030 in the Pro models, and Kirin 9030 Pro in the RS Ultimate Design. The series offers RAM capacities ranging from 12GB to a whopping 20GB for the top-tier RS model—the highest ever seen on a Huawei device.
