Huawei USA’s Andy Purdy to Speak on National Security and US-China Telecom Trade at TPRC48

Huawei Technologies USA Chief Security Officer Andy Purdy will speak at the TPRC48 Program, a communication, information and internet policy research conference. The event, which will take place from 17-19 February, will bring together researchers from around the world from academia, industry, government and non-profit organizations to discuss the latest developments in national and international policy related to communication, information and the Internet. Virtual event registration can be found here.

Purdy’s virtual panel titled “Is US-China Trade Compliant Information with Telecoms and National Security?” Will take place Wednesday, February 17th at 1 pm ET. Claude Barfield, a Resident Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, will attend the panel. The panel will be led by Milton Mueller and Shane Tews, Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Visiting Researcher at the American Enterprise Institute. The panel will include a balanced discussion around cybersecurity, use of common standards and standards development organizations, telecommunications equipment trade, internet services and e-commerce.

Why is the US turning to technology nationalism and withdrawing from its support for the free market economy in communications to counter the rise of Chinese capabilities? Is the use of Huawei equipment really a national security threat to the US? Internet, policy and cybersecurity experts will discuss these questions and the overall impact of the US-China conflict on telecommunications policy during the virtual panel discussion. Use TPRC48 February 17-19 for more conversation from the experts themselves about these answers and the latest issues facing the telecommunications industry.
