Huawei’s CloudMatrix Platform Breaks Records with Ascend-Powered AI Supercomputing

Huawei Technologies’ innovative data center architecture, powered by its proprietary Ascend chips, has once again claimed the top spot on a biennial ranking of groundbreaking technological advancements. The system in question, the CloudMatrix 384, is a testament to Huawei’s relentless pursuit of excellence and their commitment to overcoming challenges posed by international sanctions.

Dubbed an ‘AI supernode,’ the CloudMatrix 384 was unveiled at the company’s sixth Innovation and IP Forum, held in Beijing on November 11, 2025. It represents a significant leap forward in handling extensive artificial intelligence workloads with unparalleled efficiency. The system integrates up to 384 Ascend 910C neural processing units and 192 Kunpeng server CPUs, all interconnected through a unified bus providing ultra-high bandwidth and low latency.

“The CloudMatrix 384 is designed to support tens of thousands of interconnected chips for AI model training and execution,” said Sun Hongwei, Huawei’s chief computing software architect. This scalable architecture not only reflects Huawei’s ability to innovate under duress but also sets a new standard in the field of artificial intelligence.

Hardware & Software SynergyThe CloudMatrix 384 is more than just hardware – it’s a seamless blend of cutting-edge software and robust architecture. This synergy ensures that large-scale computing systems remain reliable, efficient, and scalable. Sun Hongwei emphasized the challenges faced by his team in maintaining system stability while pushing the boundaries of AI performance.

Overcoming US SanctionsThe development of this groundbreaking technology is a direct response to the ongoing US sanctions affecting Huawei’s ability to access certain markets and technologies. Despite these constraints, Huawei has managed to stay ahead with its proprietary solutions like the Ascend series of chips, which are central to driving AI advancements globally.

“The CloudMatrix 384 represents more than just a product; it symbolizes our commitment to innovation in the face of adversity,” Sun added. With this system, Huawei continues to challenge traditional boundaries and set new benchmarks for artificial intelligence infrastructure.
