Kirin 9030 vs Kirin 9030 Pro: Key Differences Revealed by Huawei

Huawei is once again showcasing its in-house processors with the latest Pura 80 lineup and Mate 80 series, marking a return to featuring their custom chips prominently. The company has introduced two new Kirin System-on-Chips (SoCs) for the Mate 80 phones: the Kirin 9030 and the Kirin 9030 Pro.

While Huawei highlighted the performance improvements of the Kirin 9030 over its predecessor, details about the differences between these two new processors were initially scarce. However, recent images showcasing the specifications for the Mate 80 Pro have shed light on the distinctions between them.

Both chips feature a similar layout with identical Maleoon 935 GPU and a nine-core CPU arrangement. The Kirin 9030 comes standard with twelve threads, whereas its Pro counterpart boasts fourteen threads. For their CPU cores, both models have two high-performance cores clocked at 2.75GHz and four mid-range cores running at 1.72GHz.

The real differentiation lies in the efficiency core cluster, where the Kirin 9030 features six cores operating at 2.27GHz, while the Pro model includes eight such cores with the same clock speed. These differences enable Huawei to designate the Pro chip for its premium devices, as evidenced by RAM configurations: Mate 80 models with 16GB of RAM are equipped with the Kirin 9030 Pro, whereas those with 12GB utilize the standard 9030.

In addition to these slab phones, Huawei’s high-end foldable devices in the Mate X7 lineup also feature the Kirin 9030 Pro. This strategic deployment underscores the superior performance and capabilities of the Pro model within Huawei’s latest product range.
