Microsoft Updates Copilot with Enhanced Features and Deeper Integration

Microsoft has unveiled a series of new capabilities for its digital assistant, Copilot, enhancing its integration with Outlook and Google applications. The update includes the ability to analyze open tabs in the Edge browser at the tab level, allowing for direct actions such as summarizing content, comparing data, and making hotel reservations.

The latest version of Copilot also introduces a feature called “Stories,” enabling users to revisit past search queries in narrative format, aiding memory recall. Additionally, Microsoft has added an avatar named Mico, designed with emotional expressions and color changes to make interactions more natural and engaging.

On the collaborative front, Copilot now integrates with Groups, transforming it into a workspace for up to 32 people to work simultaneously on shared text documents, drafts, and tasks. This update expands Copilot’s long-term memory capabilities, allowing it to securely remember user-provided critical details and recall them in future sessions.

Microsoft’s AI Product Manager Ella Steckler emphasized that, “Just like a travel companion, Copilot keeps track of important information seamlessly,” adding that the assistant maintains crucial data even after conversations end. The company also noted new measures to ensure reliability in sensitive areas such as healthcare, reducing misinformation by ensuring answers are sourced.

These enhancements aim to make Microsoft’s browser and digital assistant more attractive compared to competitors like Perplexity Comet, Google Chrome/Alphabet ecosystem, and OpenAI Atlas. The update is currently available in the U.S., with rollouts planned for the UK, Canada, and other countries in the coming weeks.
