Samsung Announces Partnerships for Android XR Glasses

Alongside the launch of its headset today, Samsung revealed its ongoing development of Android XR glasses, marking a continued effort towards diverse extended reality form factors.

These glasses, designed to integrate seamlessly with the Android XR ecosystem, aim to combine advanced XR capabilities with style, comfort, and practicality for daily use, encompassing discovery, work, and entertainment.

Google’s I/O 2025 presentation foreshadowed collaborations with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker to create fashionable eyewear. Samsung is now expanding on this initiative:

– “In collaboration with Google, Samsung is partnering with Warby Parker, recognized for its technological integration in eyewear design and customer experience.”

– “Samsung is also partnering with Gentle Monster to deliver fashion-forward eyewear combining AI technology with design influence.”

This development builds upon the May announcement from Google and Samsung, which outlined the creation of a software and reference hardware platform to facilitate the creation of XR glasses. Google stated that developers would be able to begin development for this platform later in 2024.

A brief, stylized teaser displayed during the launch event showcased frames, although the camera positioning was obscured. Samsung’s initial offerings are anticipated to be screenless, incorporating speakers, microphones, and a camera.

Google previously demonstrated potential use cases for XR glasses, including translation, navigation, and messaging, highlighting functionality achievable without an optional in-lens display.
