Samsung showcases the rigorous testing of its new folding smartphone.
Samsung has shared more information about its upcoming Galaxy Z TriFold, the second smartphone with triple fold mechanics after Huawei’s Mate XT. The video showcases a rigorous testing process that includes precise 3D laser scans and CT X-ray images. The device is expected to cost around $3,000 and launch in Q1 of 2026.
The Galaxy Z TriFold undergoes extensive testing with over 200,000 folding cycles, water resistance tests that meet IP48 standards, and checks for dust and shock resistance. Two Armor-Flex hinges are installed by robots to ensure precision, followed by a process where the main display is bonded under pressure for stability.
The Samsung model features a larger 10-inch screen when unfolded compared to the Huawei Mate XT’s 8.1 inches. The Galaxy Z TriFold uses dual hinges, while the Huawei device relies on one hinge and a magnetic closure mechanism. In terms of water resistance, Samsung’s IP48 rating is lower than Huawei’s IP53 but it may offer better performance with its advanced processor.
The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold aims to attract tech enthusiasts and business users who might use the device as an alternative to notebooks. The launch is set for February or March 2026, possibly during Mobile World Congress.
