Samsung is gearing up for an anticipated release of its tri-fold smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, with potential launch plans in the first week of December. A fresh leak from South Korea suggests that Samsung could offer this upcoming device at a more affordable price point than previously thought. Korean tech blogger yeux1122 revealed that Samsung is considering setting an initial price tag around 3.6 million won (approximately $2,447) in its home market.
This pricing strategy would put the Galaxy Z TriFold in direct competition with Huawei’s Mate XTs, currently the only commercially available tri-fold device on the market. The Mate XTs is priced at roughly $2,520 after a reduction from its original price point.
The Galaxy Z TriFold will feature a unique design with two hinges, one of which is expected to enable tighter folding for compact stacking. It employs a G-shaped inward-folding mechanism aimed at protecting the sensitive inner OLED panel. In contrast, Huawei’s Mate XTs uses a Z-format hinge that exposes the bending edge when folded.
Once unfolded, the Galaxy Z TriFold expands into a 10-inch OLED display with a 6.5-inch outer screen for standard smartphone usage. Although the bezels are thicker compared to recent flagships, Samsung has ensured top-tier performance and cutting-edge technology within this tri-fold device. It is anticipated to come equipped with a main camera boasting a resolution of up to 200 megapixels, offering an impressive maximum zoom level of 100x alongside a secondary 12-megapixel ultrawide lens and a third 10-megapixel telephoto lens.
The device will be powered by three batteries potentially utilizing silicon-carbon cells for enhanced performance. Inside, the Galaxy Z TriFold will run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite series chipset to ensure robust processing capabilities.
