The mid-range smartphone market is getting heated with the release of two promising devices from Honor and Realme. This article pits the Honor 400 Lite against the Realme 14 Pro Plus to determine which one offers better performance, display quality, and overall value for money. Both phones run on Android 15 and boast sleek designs, but their internal specifications tell a more detailed story.

The Honor 400 Lite is equipped with a Mediatek Dimensity 7025 Ultra chipset paired with an octa-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz, offering 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. This setup ensures smooth performance for everyday tasks but may fall short for power users or those requiring intense multitasking capabilities. The Realme 14 Pro Plus 5G counters with the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, also clocked at 2.5GHz, supported by 8GB RAM and an additional 8GB virtual RAM, making it more adept at handling simultaneous applications.

Performance: Mediatek vs Snapdragon

The Honor 400 Lite’s processor is designed to handle daily tasks efficiently, but the lack of a large cache and memory expansion limits its ability to perform heavy-duty operations smoothly. The Realme 14 Pro Plus, on the other hand, features an advanced Snapdragon chipset known for its efficiency in managing multi-tasking scenarios, thereby providing users with a smoother experience.

Display and Battery: A Visual Feast

The Honor 400 Lite comes equipped with a stunning 6.7-inch AMOLED panel featuring a resolution of 1080×2412 pixels and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, offering crisp visuals and fluid interactions. The screen’s peak brightness can reach an impressive 3500 nits, ensuring excellent visibility even under direct sunlight. A large 5230mAh battery complements the display with fast charging capabilities at 35W.

Realme ups the ante with a larger 6.83-inch AMOLED panel that delivers higher pixel density and richer colors thanks to its peak brightness of 1500 nits, though it falls short compared to Honor’s model in terms of outdoor visibility. The battery capacity is upgraded to an impressive 6000mAh, supported by rapid charging at up to 80W.

Camera Capabilities: Beyond the Surface

The Honor 400 Lite features a dual-camera system with a primary sensor of 108MP and a secondary 5MP lens, capable of capturing detailed images. Video capabilities are capped at 1080p at 30fps, ideal for casual video recording needs.

Realme takes the camera setup one step further by equipping their device with three rear cameras: a primary sensor of 64MP, complemented by secondary and tertiary sensors that enhance low-light photography. The front camera also gets an upgrade to a 13MP module, making it suitable for high-quality selfies.

Both devices come packed with essential features such as 5G connectivity, WiFi 7 support, and Bluetooth 5.3, positioning them well in the modern smartphone landscape.

Conclusion: The Final Verdict

The Honor 400 Lite is a commendable choice for users prioritizing affordability with high storage options, while the Realme 14 Pro Plus shines in areas like battery capacity and enhanced camera features. Despite slight performance differences, both phones offer compelling packages within their price range.

Honor, a prominent sub-brand of Huawei, has been making waves with its upcoming Honor 500 series. Recently spotted on the Geekbench database, these devices offer tantalizing glimpses into their performance capabilities ahead of their anticipated release in China.

Geekbench Data and Model Numbers

The Honor 500 and its Pro variant have been identified through model numbers MEY-AN00 and MEP-AN00, respectively. Both devices are expected to feature the latest chipset from Qualcomm, setting a high bar for performance.

Technical Specifications Revealed

The Honor 500 comes equipped with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 SoC paired with an Adreno 825 GPU. The Geekbench scores for this model reveal a single-core score of 2113 and a multi-core score of 6539, indicating robust performance under standard use conditions.

In contrast, the Honor 500 Pro flaunts a Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC and an Adreno 830 GPU. This combination yields impressive Geekbench scores: a single-core score of 3100 and a multi-core score of 9463. These figures suggest that the Pro model is designed for users who demand top-tier performance, particularly in multitasking and high-performance tasks.

Operating System and RAM

Both devices will run on Android 16 OS, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of applications and updates. Additionally, they are expected to come with generous amounts of RAM, featuring the latest 16GB variant which should provide ample memory for multitasking and running resource-intensive apps.

Storage Options and Design

Honor has outlined several storage configurations for these devices: the Honor 500 Pro will be available in four variants—12/256GB, 16/512GB, 16/1TB, and 12/512GB. The standard Honor 500 model will offer three options—12/256GB, 16/512GB, and 12/512GB. These options cater to different user needs ranging from casual users to power users looking for large storage capacities.

Google Chrome for Android has begun rolling out a long-awaited Material 3 Expressive user interface update. The visual changes, initially introduced in a phased rollout at the end of August, are now available to all users with Chrome version 141.

The new design brings Google Chrome’s Android interface in line with the design language used in other Google applications. Key changes include redesigned icons with circular and cornered boxes highlighting user interactions, intended to improve the touchscreen experience on mobile devices. The three-dot menu now displays frequently used actions such as bookmarks, downloads, site information, and refresh with circular icons at the top of the screen.

When revisiting saved pages, the star icon now features a rounded square background, visually differentiating active actions. The “new tab” button in the new tab view is now housed within a rounded square with a dynamic, color-based background. Tab, Incognito, and Group Switching buttons are also placed in their own distinct containers, increasing visual clarity.

Tab Groups are themed based on user-selected colors. While Google is also testing a Material 3 Expressive approach to the address bar, this change is not yet active for all users. Some users are experiencing a rounded corner progress indicator during page loading, offering a more modern alternative to the classic loading bar. Button sizes have not been increased, maintaining a compact and aesthetic look.

The UI update was distributed via a server-side change. Users still displaying the previous interface are advised to restart Chrome via the application settings by selecting “Force Stop.”
