US judge dismisses indictment against Huawei CFO

A US judge on Friday dismissed the indictment against Meng Wanzhou, chief financial officer of Huawei Technologies Co., officially ending the criminal sanctions case that has strained US-China relations. Meng, the managing director of the telecommunications company whose father Ren Zhengfei founded Huawei, signed an agreement with US prosecutors last year to drop the case, four years after his arrest in December 2018. Prosecutors charged Meng with bank fraud and other crimes of deceiving HSBC Holdings Plc and other banks about Huawei's relationship with a company operating in Iran. Huawei pleaded not guilty to the relevant US charges. U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly in Brooklyn dismissed Meng's indictment with prejudice, meaning it cannot be reinstated. An attorney for Men...

Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou’s US bank fraud charges to be dismissed

US prosecutors asked a judge on Thursday (December 1st) to dismiss bank fraud and other charges against Meng Wanzhou, chief financial officer of Chinese Huawei Technologies, whose arrest in 2018 has strained relations between the US and China. Meng struck a deal with prosecutors last year to drop the charges against him on December 1, 2022, four years after he was arrested in Canada on a US arrest warrant, as Reuters first reported. Huawei, a telecommunications equipment manufacturer that the US considers a national...

Huawei CFO is threatened, leaded letters are sent.

Doug Maynard, chief operating officer for security of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou, said that Huawei CFO Wanzhou had received threatening letters and some envelopes contain bullets. According to Maynard's statements, Wanzhou received many threatening letters last year, and some envelopes contained bullets. Following the death threat statements, Wanzhou requested the court to ease the bail conditions, including the security elements that followed her. Under the new bail conditions, Wanzhou will pay for the security elements that can leave the house between 06:00 and 23:00 and watch her 24 hours a day. However, Wanzhou will wear a GPS wristband as a requirement of bail conditions. In addition, the Canadian immigration office allowed Wanzhou's family to enter the country.
