According to sources, one of the Top5 manufacturers is evaluating wide-screen phones, while a smaller company is testing a screen with dimensions of 6.9X inches.
A blogger named @数码闲聊站 mentioned today that one of the top five big players likes the idea of wide screens and is currently evaluating them. Meanwhile, an outside-the-top-five company has a screen measuring around 6.9X inches in size for testing purposes.
The blogger likely refers to phones with proportions similar to those found on the Huawei Pura X. Released in March this year, it was the first device equipped with HarmonyOS 5 and featured a 6.3-inch screen with a resolution of 2120×1320 pixels and an aspect ratio of 16:10.
The wide-screen Pura X model was designed to enhance the reading experience, as noted by Huawei’s chief executive officer, Yu Chengdong. Interestingly, protective cases for the non-foldable version of this phone have already hit the market, suggesting that there is a demand for wide-screen smartphones.
