New generation of processors introduced in the latest Huawei smartphone lineup.
Huawei recently unveiled its new Mate 80 series and foldable model, the Mate X7, alongside the Kirin 9030 chipset family. The latest smartphones and tablets in the lineup are powered by Huawei’s next-generation Kirin 9030 series processors, available in two versions: the standard Kirin 9030 and its more advanced counterpart, the Kirin 9030 Pro.
The standard Kirin 9030 is featured in the Mate 80 and some configurations of the Mate 80 Pro. Meanwhile, the Kirin 9030 Pro is reserved for high-end devices such as the special edition Mate 80 Pro with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storage, the Mate 80 Pro Max, Mate 80 RS Ultimate, and the foldable Mate X7.
Both chips are based on ARMv8 architecture and utilize Maleoon 935 GPU for graphics processing. Although these processors share similar architectural foundations, variations in cooling systems or memory configurations can impact performance across different devices.
The Kirin 9030 Pro is equipped with a nine-core processor that supports up to 14 threads, boasting high-performance cores running at 2.75 GHz, performance-focused cores operating at 2.27 GHz, and efficiency-oriented cores at 1.72 GHz. In contrast, the standard Kirin 9030 also has a nine-core architecture but only supports up to 12 threads.
These processors are manufactured using SMIC’s N+3 production process, approximately 6nm lithography technology, similar to that used for the previous generation of Kirin chips like the one in the Mate 70 series. This level of manufacturing typically offers good energy efficiency and thermal performance.
