Honor has revealed its highly unconventional “Robot Phone” in real-life photographs at the Honor User Carnival in China. Initially thought of as a gimmick, the phone now stands out for its distinctive features and innovative camera system.
The prototype models were showcased in three colors: black, white, and gold, with either a glass or faux-leather back cover. The standout feature is a motorized arm equipped with a gimbal mechanism, allowing the primary rear-facing camera to extend when needed. When folded down, it operates like any standard phone camera.
The robotic arm’s functionality includes shooting selfies without rotating the device and steady video recording due to the integrated gimbal system. Moreover, the AI-powered feature can track and frame a subject or follow the user even if placed on a table or in a shirt pocket.
One of the most intriguing features is the star-tracking mode for capturing long-exposure shots. The robotic arm slowly adjusts itself to align with celestial objects, making it unique among smartphones today. Although there’s no confirmation yet that this will become an actual product, Honor’s Robot Phone is currently one of the most innovative smartphone prototypes seen in recent times.
