Huawei announces plans to sell its AI-focused Ascend chip series outside China.
Huawei is preparing to sell its artificial intelligence-focused Ascend chip series outside of the Chinese market, positioning itself as a strong alternative to Nvidia’s dominant position in the global AI hardware space. The company plans to officially debut the Ascend 950 chips in South Korea starting from 2026.
Huawei’s decision marks a significant strategic shift, targeting international companies that face difficulties accessing Nvidia’s products due to US tech restrictions. At a recent event in Seoul, Huawei Korea CEO Balian Wang announced the company will begin offering AI computing cards and data center solutions to South Korean customers next year.
The Ascend 950 series consists of two variants: the 950 Pro and the standard model. Both are designed for high-performance applications, supporting large-scale data processing requirements in AI environments. Wang emphasized that Huawei’s approach is not just about selling chips but providing comprehensive solutions.
Meanwhile, the company’s commitment to expanding its HarmonyOS software platform also aligns with this strategic move, offering users a more integrated and seamless experience across multiple devices.
