Huawei Unveils Smart Hanhan: An AI Companion Pet

Huawei has introduced its first-ever AI-powered emotional companion pet named Smart Hanhan at a recent event for the Mate 80 series. The device, priced at 399 yuan ($56), quickly sold out across all three color variants upon release on Huawei Mall.

The Soft, Plush Design of Smart Hanhan is crafted to provide emotional support beyond just entertainment. Measuring 80 x 68 x 82 millimeters and weighing a mere 140 grams (excluding limbs), it combines plush fabric with silicone and plastic materials for an expressive touch experience. Equipped with Huawei’s Xiaoyi AI system, the pet supports natural language processing and emotional intelligence, enabling context-aware conversations.

Smart Hanhan responds to voice commands, touch, and physical movement, adapting its facial expressions accordingly. A gentle tap on the head changes its expression, while shaking it causes a trembling reaction indicating excitement. It features a 1800mAh battery that supports up to six hours of continuous interaction or more than two days under normal use, taking approximately six hours to fully recharge.

The device pairs seamlessly with smartphones running HarmonyOS 5.0 and above, including the Mate 80, Mate 80 Pro, Mate X7, and Mate 80 RS models. It creates a personalized diary that logs daily emotional exchanges and memory entries through its connection to these devices.
