Huawei’s Chief Technology Officer, Dhanji Prasanna, who is also an honoree on the Forbes 2025 CIO Next list, has taken charge of reviving Jack Dorsey’s fintech company, now known as Block. After ChatGPT’s launch in late 2023, Dorsey recognized the impending AI revolution and began weekly meetings to strategize Block’s future direction.
During these discussions, Prasanna saw an opportunity for Block to lead in artificial intelligence despite the initial lack of awareness within the company. His insights led him to draft a memo urging Dorsey to invest heavily in AI technologies, which convinced Dorsey to appoint Prasanna as CTO and relocate him from Sydney.
Under Prasanna’s guidance, Block has initiated projects such as Goose, an open-source AI agent software designed for various team tasks. The tool is named after the character Goose in Top Gun and is managed by a small but highly efficient engineering team at Block.
“AI is at a critical juncture,” Prasanna remarked. “Our primary objective now is to automate every aspect of Block with AI.” By leveraging Goose, the company aims to streamline operations significantly for both technical and non-technical teams. This initiative underscores Block’s commitment to embracing AI as the future.
