India raided the offices of Chinese smartphone maker Vivo. Previously, he had made searches on Huawei and Xiaomi. Why is India raiding Chinese firms?
Chinese smartphone maker Vivo said on Tuesday it was “cooperating with authorities” in India after reports of investigators raiding dozens of its offices on suspicion of money laundering.
The searches make Vivo the latest Chinese tech company to face scrutiny from Indian research institutions following similar raids on Xiaomi and Huawei Technologies Co.
A Vivo spokesperson confirmed that the Enforcement Directorate, India’s financial crime-fighting agency, raided multiple locations and seized company property. Vivo Spokesperson; “Vivo cooperates with authorities to provide all necessary information” “We are committed to full compliance with the law.” said.
Relations between India and China are at a low since a deadly Himalayan military standoff between the two countries in 2020. Then the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs banned hundreds of mobile apps originating in China, including the hugely popular social media platform TikTok.
