Senior delegation from Huawei, DEWA’s visit to Expo 2020 Dubai

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) received a high-level delegation from Huawei headed by Charles Yang, President of Huawei Middle East, and Jerry Liu, CEO of Huawei UAE. The meeting which was held at DEWA’s pavilion in Expo 2020 Dubai, was attended by Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development & Excellence; Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA, and Marwan bin Haidar, Executive Vice President of Innovation and the Future at DEWA.

The meeting discussed ways to further promote the partnership between the two sides for best practices in innovation, disruptive technologies, smart grids, digital transformation, automation, cloud platforms, and artificial intelligence (AI). The two sides also discussed progress on the joint projects including the largest solar-powered Uptime TIER III-certified data centre in the Middle East and Africa that Huawei is building for Moro Hub (Data Hub Integrated Solutions LLC), a subsidiary of Digital DEWA, the digital arm of DEWA. The new sustainable, carbon-neutral green data centre, which is being built at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, will use 100% renewable energy and has a capacity exceeding 100 megawatts (MW).

Al Tayer shared with the visiting delegation a number of DEWA’s key projects and initiatives on display at its pavilion in Expo 2020 Dubai – Sustainability District. These include the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world with a planned capacity of 5,000 MW by 2030; the Green Hydrogen project, the first of its kind in the MENA region to produce hydrogen using solar power; Digital DEWA, the digital arm of DEWA, which aims to make DEWA the world’s first digital utility to use autonomous systems for renewable energy and storage, while expanding the use of AI and digital services. At the event, DEWA is also promoting the Solar Decathlon Middle East (SDME) which it is organising as part of a partnership between DEWA, the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), and the US Department of Energy. DEWA also displays its 250MW pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant in Hatta, the first of its kind in the GCC, Dubai Mountain Peak and Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls, as well as other pioneering projects.
