Why I Still Prefer Gemini Over Apple Intelligence After a Year of Testing

After a year of closely following Apple's foray into artificial intelligence with Apple Intelligence, I'm still choosing Google's Gemini. While Apple initially seemed poised to challenge Google's dominance, the reality has been a series of underwhelming features and missed opportunities. Image Generation Discrepancies: Apple’s Playground (formerly Image Playground) struggles to deliver realistic or desirable results, often producing “creepy” animated characters. Google's Pixel Studio, while not allowing the use of specific likenesses, has significantly improved, offering a more enjoyable creative experience. The same holds true for image editing: Apple’s Clean Up tool is mediocre compared to Google’s Magic Editor and Help Me Edit, which provide more robust features and fewer artifacts. C...

Haidet Achieves 2 Billion Frames Per Second Camera Recording

Haidet has developed a camera system capable of recording at a rate of 2 billion frames per second (fps), allowing for the visualization of light’s movement. The system utilizes a high-powered laser beam redirected by a series of mirrors. The laser path involves repeated reflections between parallel mirrors, with ambient fog particles scattering the light and enabling a sensor to capture its movement. Previously, Haidet achieved 1 billion fps in 2023. This new record required a complete redesign, incorporating more precise motors, enhanced optical components, and real-time data processing software. The camera’s placement influences the perceived speed of the light; when positioned behind the laser, the outgoing light appears to move slowly, while the reflected light seems to return almost i...

Tesla’s Full Self-Driving System Approaching European and Turkish Approval for Urban Driving

Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised software is nearing approval for operation in Europe and Turkey, marking a significant step towards wider deployment of its driver-assistance system. The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) will discuss revisions to UN R171 regulations during its 42nd session on October 23, 2025. If approved, these revisions will permit Tesla’s FSD Supervised and similar autonomous systems to operate on urban roads in addition to highways across Europe. As Turkey is a member of the UNECE, the regulations will also apply within Turkey. The proposed update expands the scope of autonomous driving beyond highways to encompass urban environments. According to documentation, system-initiated maneuvers will now include traffic light and intersection n...

LangChain Secures $125 Million Funding Round, Reaching $1.25 Billion Valuation

LangChain, the open-source framework for building AI agents, announced Monday it has raised $125 million in a funding round, achieving a $1.25 billion valuation. The round, initially reported by TechCrunch in July, was led by IVP. New investors CapitalG and Sapphire Ventures participated alongside existing investors Sequoia, Benchmark, and Amplify. Founded in 2022 by machine learning engineer Harrison Chase as an open-source project, LangChain addresses challenges in building applications leveraging large language models (LLMs), including web searching, API calls, and database interactions. The project’s popularity led to the launch of a startup in April 2023, initially backed by a $10 million seed round from Benchmark. A subsequent $25 million Series A round, led by Sequoia in May 202...

Netflix Embraces Generative AI as Industry Grapples with New Technology

As the entertainment industry navigates the evolving role of generative AI, Netflix is emphasizing its strategic adoption. In a letter to investors released Tuesday, October 3, 2023, Netflix stated it is “very well positioned to effectively leverage ongoing advances in AI.” The streaming giant doesn't envision generative AI as a primary content driver but believes it holds significant potential as a tool to enhance creative workflows. “It takes a great artist to make something great,” CEO Ted Sarandos said during Tuesday’s earnings call. “AI can give creatives better tools to enhance their overall TV/movie experience, but it doesn’s automatically make you a great storyteller.” Netflix has already deployed generative AI in various productions. “The Eternaut” utilized the technology to crea...

Huawei Mate 70 Air Pricing Information Surfaces, Sparking Discussion

Reports regarding the pricing of the upcoming Huawei Mate 70 Air have begun to circulate, prompting considerable discussion among tech enthusiasts. While official pricing details remain unconfirmed by Huawei, leaked information suggests a higher price point than some analysts initially anticipated. The leaked price, reportedly for the base model, is approximately €799. Gboard now lets you hide the period and comma keys

After widely rolling out the “Font size” setting last week, the latest Gboard for Android update lets you hide the period and comma keys. Under Gboard Settings > Preferences, you’ll find new toggles for “Comma key” and “Period key: Show on keyboard for applicable languages.” They are enabled by default and this has been the layout for years. If turned off, Gboard’s bottom row will just be ‘?123’ and the enter key for a cleaner look. It makes for a very wide space bar. You can always double-press the space bar for a period, but removing the comma is a curious move. That said, you could disable that, but keep the Emoji key (which has been an option for some time now) for a more symmetrical design with the period. We’re seeing this widely rolled out on the beta and stable channels with Gbo...

After previewing last December as Project Moohan, the Samsung Galaxy XR is now available as the first headset running Google’s new Android XR operating system. Android XR Google heavily emphasizes Gemini’s role in Android XR. In addition to hand (gestures) and eye input, voice can be used to navigate apps and the OS. In terms of first-party app support, Google Maps, Photos, TV, Meet, Chrome, and YouTube have been updated for Android XR. Google Maps offers an Immersive View to explore the world in 3D: “Walk the streets of Tokyo before you book a trip, soar over the Grand Canyon or even revisit your old neighborhood.” You can look at landmarks and ask “What’s the story behind this building?” to Gemini. Similarly, Circle to Search is available on both virtual and real-world (with passthrough)...
