According to reports, WeChat is gradually testing a feature that allows users on the HarmonyOS NEXT system to view live photos in their Moments. The update comes after previous iterations of this feature were rolled out for iOS and Android devices.

The new feature was first announced by WeChat last September, enabling users to share live photos on Moments starting with iOS 8.0.51 and later expanding to Android users this April. Now, HarmonyOS NEXT is being added to the list of supported systems as part of ongoing testing efforts.

A blogger named @YiyiWanShuMao shared today that WeChat’s HarmonyOS version is gradually rolling out a new update allowing users to view live photos in Moments. As a reference point, WeChat for Android received an 8.0.63 beta update on September 2nd this year with the official update log stating improvements to known issues. IT之家 tested and confirmed that this update includes support for sending LivePhoto through chat messages, compatible with devices from Xiaomi, OPPO, vivo, Honor among others.

Moreover, in July of this year, WeChat also added the ability to send live photos via chats for iOS users on version 8.0.61 and above.

Honor officially announced today on its Weibo account a new feature in its Magic OS system called “WeChat Uninstallation Reinforcement.” This innovation allows users to retain application data when uninstalling the WeChat app, ensuring that chat records, images, and files are not lost.

According to Honor’s introduction, when using Magic OS 10.0.116 or a later version, users can choose to keep their application data during WeChat uninstalls. After reinstalling the app, all previous data will automatically be restored without any user intervention. This feature aims to prevent heartbreak caused by losing important records.

However, it’s worth noting that the current seamless restoration upon reinstallation is only available for Magic OS 10.0.116 and above versions of the system. Additionally, this function can be used solely on the main WeChat account and not on secondary accounts or split-screen installations.

Furthermore, in a related story from IT之家 earlier reports indicated that Huawei’s HarmonyOS 6.0.0.112 also offers a similar feature for retaining data when uninstalling WeChat on devices such as Pura 80 and Mate 70 models. Upon reinstalling the app through the AppGallery (Huawei’s app store), users can recover their previous settings and chat history.
