US judge dismisses indictment against Huawei CFO

A US judge on Friday dismissed the indictment against Meng Wanzhou, chief financial officer of Huawei Technologies Co., officially ending the criminal sanctions case that has strained US-China relations. Meng, the managing director of the telecommunications company whose father Ren Zhengfei founded Huawei, signed an agreement with US prosecutors last year to drop the case, four years after his arrest in December 2018. Prosecutors charged Meng with bank fraud and other crimes of deceiving HSBC Holdings Plc and other banks about Huawei's relationship with a company operating in Iran. Huawei pleaded not guilty to the relevant US charges. U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly in Brooklyn dismissed Meng's indictment with prejudice, meaning it cannot be reinstated. An attorney for Men...

Germany not planning comprehensive Huawei ban

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Economy said on Friday that Germany does not want to follow the US, which generally bans products made by Chinese telecom equipment manufacturers such as Huawei, but will continue to make such decisions on a case-by-case basis. Berlin's relationship with Beijing has come under close scrutiny since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which exposed the German economy's dependence on Russia for energy and made officials wary of a similar dependence on China for trade. Germany has come under special pressure to take action against Chinese telecom equipment manufacturers after the US administration this week banned new equipment approvals from Huawei and ZTE because they pose an "unacceptable risk" to US national security. A German Ministry of Economy strat...

Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou’s US bank fraud charges to be dismissed

US prosecutors asked a judge on Thursday (December 1st) to dismiss bank fraud and other charges against Meng Wanzhou, chief financial officer of Chinese Huawei Technologies, whose arrest in 2018 has strained relations between the US and China. Meng struck a deal with prosecutors last year to drop the charges against him on December 1, 2022, four years after he was arrested in Canada on a US arrest warrant, as Reuters first reported. Brooklyn U.S. Attorney Carolyn Pokorny wrote in a December 1 letter to U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly that "the government respectfully rejects the third indictment in this case against defendant Wanzhou Meng," without any knowledge of Meng's breach of the agreement. Huawei, a telecommunications equipment manufacturer that the US considers a national...

"China will take necessary measures to protect the legitimate rights of domestic firms," Shu Jueting, spokesman for the Chinese ministry of commerce, said at a regular news conference, urging the United States to right the wrong and stop politicizing and arming economic and trade issues. The FCC's move represents Washington's latest crackdown on Chinese tech giants for f...

Saudi Telecom Company (STC) and Huawei reached a new milestone with the innovation of commercial SuperLink solution in Dammam in May. This is the first time ever in the industry that a single-antenna link provides a 10 Gbps bandwidth for traditional bands. The link has run well on the live networks and delivered high performance during the past six months, exactly as it is designed. This deployment reduces the number of antennas by 67% and the amount of hardware by 70%, providing a simplified and large-bandwidth 5G solution for suburban areas.
