Merouane Debbah, director of Huawei France R&D Center, attended the opening of Huawei’s sixth research center in France on 9 October 2020 in Paris. The research center opened will be a research center dedicated to basic research in mathematics and computation.

The Research Center will be named after the French-Italian mathematician Joseph-Louis Lagrange. “The new center is dedicated to fundamental research in mathematics and computation. We want to help push the boundaries of science in this field and prepare for tomorrow’s groundbreaking innovations,” said Merouane Debbah, director of the Huawei France R&D Center.

Lagrange Center said, “It is a platform that is open to research by all mathematicians around the world, that enables us to go beyond borders and whose results will benefit our entire industry.

Huawei said in a press release that the new center will bring together about 30 scientists, 10 of whom are from abroad, whose work will be shared with the academic world and the scientific community.

Valerie Pecresse, president of Paris’ major district Ile-de-France, attended the opening ceremony via video link. “The Ile-de-France region represents the largest concentration of mathematicians in the world, with 3,000 researchers,” he said. “This center will undoubtedly help attract the world’s best math talents to Ile-de-France.”
