Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou Leaves Canada
2021-09-27         Follow @huaweinewos Tweet to @huaweinewosHuawei CFO Meng Wanzhou left Canada on a flight to China on Friday afternoon. Reaching an agreement to end the US accusations against him, Meng set off on a charter Air China flight to Shenzhen, where Huawei’s headquarters is located.
Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou admitted that, pursuant to an agreement with federal prosecutors, he misled HSBC Holdings Plc about the telecom company’s business with Iran in violation of US sanctions against the country. Meng will not face further prosecution and could see the charges against him dismissed by December 2022 if he complies with the terms of the agreement.
Pro-Meng supporters gathered outside the court in Vancouver on Friday to shout “Not Guilty!” After the trial, Meng gave his colleagues a big hug as he left the courtroom to applause. Someone lifted him off his feet. He thanked his supporters, the Chinese consul, and the Canadian people.
